2 liter bottle feeder

A great way to reuse a 2 liter plastic bottle is to convert it into a birdfeeder. This does require the use of a drill; if you are unfamiliar with using a drill, either get help from someone who does, or do not do this project.
 Items needed:1 2 liter bottle
Wire or twine
Duct tape (optional)
5/16†dowels (8 – 24 inches depending on how many perches you want)
Drill with 5/16â€, ¼â€, and 5/15†drill bits
Bird seed
Â- Make sure the bottle is rinsed out and dried with labels removed.
- Drill two small holes in the bottom of the bottle.
- Thread the wire or twine through the holes (wire will be easier to manipulate).
- Twist or tie ends together to form a loop on which to hang the feeder from.
- To help protect the bird food from rain, cover the holes with duct tape (optional).
- With the 5/16†drill bit, drill two holes opposite of each other about two inches from the top of the bottle.
- Insert an 8†piece of dowel through the holes.
- Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the number of desired perches (leave a few inches between each perch – see next steps to determine how much space between perches should be left).
- If you are going to use thistle seed, use the ¼†bit to make several slots around the bottle – about 1 ½†above the perch.
- If you are using larger seeds (i.e. sunflower seeds) use the 5/15†bit to make slots about 2 inches above the perch.
- Fill the bottle with seed (the use of a funnel will make this easier) and replace cap.
- Hang from a sturdy branch or a birdfeeder holder.
Note: Drill bit sizes are only estimates. Depending on what type of seed you are using, will determine what size you should use. Remember that birds will need to get the seed out of the bottle, so make sure the holes are large enough to accommodate their beaks and the seeds.
