Here’s another bird feeder that can use items you already have around the house. It is easy too, so kids can help or make it by themselves!
 Items needed:Empty egg carton
Yarn or string – 2 pieces 6†long; 1 piece 12â€-15†long
Birdseed
Scissors
Hole puncher
Â- Either by tearing or by cutting, remove top portion of egg carton. Discard or save for another use.
- With a hole punch or scissors, make holes in the corner pockets.
- Tie a knot on one end of the 6†strings.
- Thread the string through one of the holes with the knot ending on the bottom of the carton.
- Thread the string back through in the next corner; knot the end.
- Repeat with other side.
- With the longer piece of string, loop through the two loops that you formed above.
- Tie ends together.
- Fill pockets with seed.
- Hang and enjoy!
Note: Many of us probably have the option of having a cardboard egg carton or a Styrofoam one. Here are some thoughts about the types:
| Type | Pros | Cons |
Cardboard | Eco friendly | Will disintegrate |
Styrofoam | Easier to punch the holes in; holds up well | Not so eco friendly |
