Here’s a fun activity that your kids can help you out with (provided that they are not allergic to peanut butter). 

• Go to the store and buy some birdseed (see below for different varieties and what they attract).
• Take a walk through a wooded area. Find a pinecone – any size will do.
• Take a piece of yarn or string and tie it around the pinecone near the top.
• Spread some peanut butter on the pinecone.
• Roll the pinecone in the birdseed.
• Feel free to lick the peanut butter off of your fingers. J
• Hang the pinecone – preferably where you can enjoy it from your home.

  One of the best things about this type of feeder is that it is very environmentally sound.
